Covid death rate close to one thousand

The COVID-19 death toll in Sri Lanka climbed to 981 with 19 more deaths being confirmed by the Director-General of Health Services today (17), the Government Information Department said. According to the Government Information Department, 05 females and 14 males are among the deceased.

 

Until Tuesday - Army Commander General Shavendra Silva says that travel restrictions will be imposed across the island from 11.00 p.m. on Friday (May 21) to 4.00 a.m. on Tuesday (May 25).

 

He stated that island-wide travel restrictions will be imposed once again from 11.00 p.m. on Tuesday (May 25) to 4.00 a.m. on May 28 (Friday). Former Member of Parliament of Tamil National Alliance (TNA) K. Thurairetnasingam has passed away at the age of 80.

 

According to reports, he was under medical care for COVID-19 at the Kantale Hospital at the time of his demise on Monday (May 17). He is the second former legislator in Sri Lanka to succumb to COVID-19. Former Speaker of Parliament W.J.M. Lokubandara passed away on February 14 from a novel coronavirus infection. Thurairetnasingam served as a Member of Parliament from 2002 to 2010 representing the Trincomalee District.
