Ban on burqa is merely a proposal under discussion - Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Government has not  reached a decision to ban the wearing of the burqa and niqab as of yet.

 

Foreign Secretary Admiral Prof. Jayanath Colombage stated that it  is merely a proposal, which is under discussion.

 

The statement also said that the said proposal has been based on the precausionary measures that are required to ensure national security, following the investigations of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry on Easter Sunday attacks.
