All necessary steps taken to hold LG polls, election body tells SC

 

All necessary steps have been taken to hold the local government election, the Election Commission informed the Supreme Court Friday (Jan 13).

This was conveyed by President’s Counsel Saliya Peiris, on behalf of the election body, when a petition filed by retired Army Colonel W.M.R.Wijesundara was called before a Supreme Court bench consisting of Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya and Justices S.Thurairaja and Janak de Silva Friday.

In his petition, filed on January 03, the retired army officer had sought a writ order instructing the Elections Commission to suspend the conducting of the LG polls.
