Tourism triumphs 2022 in quick time in 2023

Sri Lanka Tourism has recorded the highest number of tourist arrivals in a single month since the pandemic, surpassing the total tourist arrivals for 2022 in just seven months.

In the first 27 days of the month, Sri Lanka welcomed 123,503 visitors, bringing the cumulative tourist arrivals to 748,377. Tourism Minister Harin Fernando expressed delight in this achievement and highlighted Sri Lanka's potential to elevate its tourism industry further.

Tourism earnings have also exceeded $1 billion, relieving the industry affected by challenges after the Easter Sunday attacks 2019. The daily average of tourist arrivals has been steadily increasing, with July's average reaching 4,574 compared to 3,346 in June.

Sri Lanka, Tourism has set an ambitious target of welcoming 137,594 tourists for the month. India is the leading source market, followed by the United Kingdom, China, Germany, and Russia.

Emerging markets like Japan, Australia, and South Korea are targeted for marketing efforts. The industry's swift recovery is attributed to collective efforts by the government and private sector.
