Arjuna and Upul chandana praised by Prime Minster

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa once again proved how sensitive he is too small but remarkable incidents.  He Said that the story of Sri Lankan cricket is a story of humanity. Speaking at the world cup victory commemoration Prime minister Mahinda Rajapaksha recalled how today pointed out two key incidents that took place during the 1996 cricket World Cup, which highlighted the humanitarian aspect of the contesting Sri Lankan cricket team.

He praised cricketerUpul Chandana for his dedication and selfless commitment.UpulChandana was a reserve player  at that time and he volunteered to field in the boundary in place of Aravinda de Silva, as the crowd pelted bottles to ground during the semi-final against India. Upul Chandana wanted to see that Aravinda was safe to play in the finals.

Arjuna Ranathunga was praised for showing due respect and appreciation to the late Gamini Disaanayaka former cricket board chairman.  Arjuna Ranatunga, who despite his father being a Minister of the ruling alliance first visited the residence of late Gamini Dissanayake who was then in the opposition.
