Political leaders should not suppress people: Cardinal Malclom Ranjith

Politicians should not suppress people through rigid rules and regulations but should take care of the people with tenderness, Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malclom Ranjith said.

"Politicians should mingle among the people and should try to bring all ethnic and religious groups to love each other. We have had a long war waged with anger and hatred but now it is time to love each other," Cardinal Ranjith said speaking during a ceremony held to bless a new church in Kalagedihena.

"We saw how people in Jaffna embraced President Anura Kumara Dissanayake when he visited the North yesterday. We saw that there is a great desire among the people in the North to reconcile with the South. President Dissanayake has also set an example to other political leaders as he showed how a leader should go among the people and embrace them with tenderness, " he added.
