Medicine quality control US FDA to upskill NMRA

A group of experts from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is in Sri Lanka for a three-day program.

The goal is to help the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) learn about the high standards, quality control, and medicine regulations used in the US.

About 50 NMRA staff members are taking part, including pharmaceutical assessors and analysts. The program includes a visit to a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant to check compliance.

The US FDA team's visit is aimed at improving Sri Lanka's pharmaceutical regulatory system and quality control. The NMRA aims to learn from the FDA's world-class regulatory practices to enhance their own processes.

This program was initiated after a discussion with the President about improving pharmaceutical regulations in Sri Lanka.

The US FDA team includes Dr. Sarah McMullen, Dr. Phuc Nguyen, and Dr. Sudhindra Kulkarni.
