Arrest perpetrators responsible for Baby Hamdan’s death

A Colombo Magistrate ordered the Borella Police to arrest all perpetrators whoever responsible for the death of Baby Hamdi following a kidney surgery at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital, Borella.
Magistrate Harshana Kakulawela ordered the Police to arrest whoever or in whatever capacity they may be, the perpetrators who are responsible for the death of baby Hamdi.
The Magistrate made this order to the Borella Police on considering the submissions of counsel Y.L.M. Yoosuf (who is also an Allopathic medical practitioner) who appeared during the post mortem inquiry on behalf of the interest of the aggrieved parents of the deceased child and based on the facts revealed before the court by the Borella Police, the medical reports and evidence presented so far in court.
During the post mortem inquiries it was revealed that despite the claims by the medical practitioner that the child’s kidneys were located abnormally according to the reports, the tests and the scan reports have disclosed that the two kidneys were located anatomically on right places.
Nine months after the birth Hamdi Fazleem had developed complications in his urinary system for which he was referred to a doctor at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital. After conducting several scans and tests the doctors had diagnosed that little Hamdi’s left kidney was malfunctioning and had recommended its removal.
On December 24, 2022 three-year-old Hamdi Fazleem underwent a kidney surgery by Dr. Naveen Wijekoon at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital. Three days after the surgery a DSMA test was performed and two days afterwards another CT scan was also performed and the doctors disclosed that Hamdi's both kidneys were missing. However seven months after fighting for his life, little Hamdi breathed his last on July 28, 2023.
The child’s death is believed to have been caused after the surgery by carelessly removing both kidneys. The doctor had later claimed that the child was suffering from a rare condition, due to which his kidneys were located abnormally.
