'Amber' alert issued for heavy rainfall across the Island

The Meteorology Department has issued an 'Amber' advisory stating that due to active southwest monsoon conditions, the prevailing showery condition in the southwestern part of Sri Lanka is expected to enhance on September 1. 

 

 

Heavy rains above 100mm are anticipated in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Southern provinces, as well as in the Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts. 

 

 

The public is advised to take precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
