Postal Dept. proposes stamp duty revision amid revenue decline

The Postal Department has submitted a proposal to revise the stamp duty in the upcoming budget due to the rapid decline in stamp revenue.
Postmaster General Ruwan Sathkumara said that this proposal was submitted to the Treasury as the Postal Department's revenue has decreased due to other expenses including electricity, water, fuel, transportation fees etc.
Stamp sales have decreased in the general mail through new technological methods.
The Postmaster General points out that public transport is used to deliver letters of the Postal Department and that train transportation fees have also increased by about 600% in the past.
He further said that plans are currently being made to improve the courier service system to increase the Postal Department's revenue.
