Cabinet approves 5,882 recruitments to fill Ministry vacancies

 Considering requests from various departments and affiliated bodies of the Ministries to fill vacant posts, the Cabinet has granted approval for the relevant Ministries and institutions to proceed with 5,882 recruitments, as recommended by the committee.

Addressing the media, Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said that the proposal, forwarded by the Prime Minister, sought approval for the respective Ministries and institutions to make these recruitments.

Accordingly, during the Cabinet meeting held on December 30, 2024, approval was granted to appoint an officers’ committee, chaired by the Secretary to the Prime Minister, to oversee the recruitment process. This committee is responsible for identifying requirements, setting priorities, and determining a timeframe for essential recruitments in various government sectors.

The number of vacant posts recommended by the committee for recruitment is as follows:

909 posts for the Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation Ministry.

109 posts for the Women and Child Affairs Ministry.

144 posts for the Environment Ministry.

2,500 posts for the Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry.

22 posts for the Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education Ministry.

3 posts for the Science and Technology Ministry.

185 posts for the Finance, Plan Implementation and Economic Development Ministry.

20 posts for the Fisheries, Aquatic and Marine Resources Ministry.

1,615 posts for the Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Governments Ministry.

72 posts for the Central Provincial Council.

303 posts for the Uva Provincial Council.
