Sathsara Nimesh’s body to be exhumed for postmortem

Colombo Additional Magistrate Kemintha Perera today ordered the exhumation of the body of Sathsara Nimesh, who died while in the custody of the Welikada Police, to conduct a fresh postmortem examination by a three-member panel of medical experts.
The order was issued following a request made by the aggrieved party.
In a further report submitted to court day before yesterday (08), the CID informed that the initial postmortem report did not specify a cause of death. However, ongoing investigations include the analysis of blood samples submitted to the Government Analyst. The investigation is also focusing on the deceased's unusual behavioral patterns and the individuals who interacted with him shortly before his death.
Additionally, a detailed report was submitted to the court today based on statements recorded from 14 police sergeants, several civilians, suspects who were in custody at the time of the incident, and witnesses from a psychiatric institution.
The counsel representing the aggrieved party, however, told the court that the mother of the deceased had already filed an affidavit stating that she could not find closure from the previous postmortem examination.
Considering the submissions from both parties, the Magistrate instructed the Chief Judicial Medical Officer of Colombo to conduct a fresh postmortem examination with the assistance of a three-member panel of expert doctors and to submit a comprehensive report to the court.
