Wasantha Mudalige and 56 arrestees remanded

 

All the 57 people arrested for forcibly entering the premises of the Ministry of Education have been remanded until February 27.

The arrested 48 student monks of the Buddhist and Pali University, the convener of the Inter-University Student Council Mr. Wasantha Mudalige and 08 others were presented to the Kaduwela Magistrate's Court yesterday (February 24).

They were arrested for breaking into the premises of the Ministry of Education in Pelawatte, Battaramulla on Thursday (February 23).

During the Satyagraha held at Homagama Pitipana Junction on February 22, the protesters demanded the authorities to reopen the Buddhist and Pali University and to take action against the Sri Lanka Police.

During Satyagraha, when a group of student monks of the Inter-University Bhikshu Balamandal tried to disperse, the police fired water cannons and tear gas.
