Mr. Arjuna Ranatunga is appointed as the Chairman of the National Sports Council

 

Former Sri Lanka cricket captain and former Member of Parliament Arjuna Ranatunga has been appointed as the chairman of the 15-member National Sports Council to advise the Minister of Sports on policy issues related to the subject.

The members of the council are as follows.

3. Air Force Commander Air Marshal Sudarshan Pathirana
4. Navy Commander Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenna
5. Director General of Sports Amal Edrisuriya
6. Dr. Maiya Gunasekara
7. Major General Rajitha Ampemohotti
8. Former Sri Lankan wicketkeeper Srini Kulawansa
9. Advocate Ajith Pathirana
10. Sunil Jayaweera
11. Crisanta Mendes
12. Lasitha Gunaratne
13. Nalinda Ilangakoon
14. Sudath Chandrasekara
15. Sujani Bogollagama (Secretary)

The council was previously chaired by former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardena, and its members resigned when former sports minister Namal Rajapaksa resigned from his ministerial post amid the country's political and economic crisis.
